Since I’ve been pulling an all nighter at my office, and its 5:20am EST, should I just say Fuck You to any chance at sleep today, and have another few cups of coffee, or try to get some shut eye after I get my kid to school at 8:00am? I had a 3 hour nap Sunday afternoon, which really threw off my sleep schedule, so I figured I might as well get some work done since I can’t sleep anyways. I’m already 2 cups in from earlier today (last night?), and I don’t have set office hours so I can sleep later today, if need be.

Thoughts?

A nap is the healthiest thing you could do, but that depends whether or not it will screw your rhythm up the rest of the week.

Take a power nap. You’ll wake up feeling rested and refreshed, yet it won’t mess up your sleep schedule or something like that. Just make sure to set the alarm to go after 30-40 minutes tops, otherwise you’ll get into the deepest stage of sleep and will wake up feeling like you were ran over by a truck instead. The effects tend to wear out after 4 or 6 hours or so, but then you can take another quick nap if needed. I used to do that a lot when I worked overnight at my old job.

That, or drink a can of RedBull. I’ve found that I have developed a tolerance to caffeine after abusing the coffee machine on a lot of all-nighters, but that syrup-thing on the blue/white checkered can still works magic to give me an energy boost.

I think a quick nap is the way to go. Red-bull, at my age, gives me the shakes and heart palpitations something bad.

For me, it’s a 20-minute nap. Any longer and I get a serious case of the grogs.

Drink a cup of coffee and immediately take a nap...it takes a bit for the caffeine to kick in so it will start working its magic as you wake up.

I tried to do an all nighter and power through recently, can’t do it anymore...

With kids that sounds horrible, take the nap man
